Heart Valve

  • Currently, porcine, biological valves are made from dead tissue and have a life span of approximately 10 years.
  • The Riddle Institute Heart Valve will be integrated in the body as live tissue and will have the ability to grow and develop with a pediatric patient.

The Riddle Institute for Regenerative Medicine is currently working on creating a transplantable living aortic heart valve harvested from mesenchymal stem cells taken from the patient’s own bone marrow and grown on a bioscaffold.
